Agile Methodologies
Promote DX (Digital transformation) through 'low-code-first' development based on Agile Methodologies
BlueMeme realized in-house system development at NYK Line by utilizing OutSystems, a low-code development platform and agile methodologies.
NYK Line is one of largest comprehensive global-logistics enterprise that operates a wide range of businesses such as liner trade, bulk shipping, air cargo transportation and distribution. As a leader in DX, NYK Line was searching for the way to develop applications that could rapidly improve operational efficiency to meet diverse customer needs.
As a possible solution to NYK Line’s challenges, BlueMeme proposed OutSystems, a low-code development platform that can be flexibly used to develop large-scale systems, which NYK Line began implementing in August 2021 in Japan. A major factor in the decision to implement OutSystems was that the company’s local subsidiary in the Philippines was already operating OutSystems, and BlueMeme demonstrated the flexibility of it for design implementation and the feasibility of linking OutSystems to external systems.
Based on BlueMeme’s implementation and technical support, NYK Line has adopted an agile methodology, with subsidiary NYK Business Systems Co., Ltd. providing technical support to the entire group and incorporating feedback from the business units many times over. In the case of the car carrier business system, BlueMeme provided technical support to NYK Business Systems Co., Ltd. to redevelop a system, which had previously been developed from scratch and maintained by themselves, using OutSystems. This resulted in a significant reduction in man-hours and rapid system development that reflected the opinions of frontline employees.
Given the features of the low-code development platform, which automates a large part of the development process, NYK Line plans to train and increase the number of personnel who can understand business processes and build practical systems, rather than those who specialize only in programming skills. BlueMeme will continue to support DX at NYK Line by utilizing the knowledge gained from leading the low-code development market in Japan and AGILE-DX, development methodology, which enables the effective operation of low-code technology and agile methodology.
